The Proposal...

So…it all began about a month ago when Kevin and I had a  “talk” about how he wanted to wait a couple years before we got married so that we would both be graduated, and have more stable incomes. We talked long and hard about it for a while so I truly believed this was what Kevin wanted for us. …with that conversation in mind, fast forward to Thanksgiving break.

Kevin was coming to Idaho with me to have Thanksgiving with my family. He asked me if he could bring his guitar so that he could practice because he was leading worship at church that Sunday. Of course I said that was okay.

**Side note, Kevin almost didn’t get his guitar on the plane because the man at the gate said that they only allowed soft case guitars inside the aircraft. Yet this was after we had made it through both check-in and security. Kevin told him that by putting his guitar in the cargo area of the plane it would ruin it because of the pressure change and the cold temperature. The man, not wanting to make a big scene, told Kevin that it was fine, but if there wasn’t enough storage room Kevin would need to put it under the plane. … Little did I know the real reason Kevin didn’t want his guitar in the cargo area was because my ring was in it. J**

So the day of Thanksgiving rolls around and I’m stuck doing some last minute homework for the entire morning. When I was done, I hopped in the shower and told Kevin to think of something for us to do when I got out and before dinner. He couldn’t think of anything so I suggested we go for a walk on the Oregon Trail, which is right behind my parent’s house. He wanted to bring his guitar. I just rolled my eyes, thinking that he was being a dork and just wanted to play his guitar in the snow (keep in mind the conversation we had ^^ was still fresh in my memory). So he brought his guitar along, I called him my minstrel and we headed out for a walk.

About a half mile down there are a couple of benches overlooking the valley below, with downtown Boise in the background. We stopped there because my mom had given me her camera to take pictures since it had just snowed. (once again, I didn’t think anything of it) We stopped at those benches and I had Kevin sit down so I could take a picture as you see….

Then he had me sit down to take a picture, after he started playing his guitar, he started playing the song he had written for me. I had never heard the words to this song, and he had told me before that I wouldn’t here them until I was 80 years old because it was a work in progress. But, then he started singing… and the last line in the song was “marry me”. Next, he took off his guitar, got down and one knee, and pulled out the ring. It was PERFECT.

As you will hear it is a progressive song, the first part he wrote when we had been together for about 6 months. The second part he wrote about a year a half in, and the last part he wrote just a few months before he proposed…

We are so excited to start our new life together! J
